NATUROPATHIC CONSULTATIONS FOR KIDS | GOLD COAST
Children’s Consultations
Gentle, natural health care for your little ones.
Whether your child is constantly picking up every bug at school, struggling with digestive issues, skin conditions, allergies, or something more complex like autism, pyrolles or PAN/PANDAS, we can help.
Helping our little people thrive, with gentle, practical naturopathic support tailored to their individual needs.
Children experience illness differently to adults, and their healthcare should reflect that.
At Health Haven, consultations focus on understanding your child’s health as a whole, looking beyond individual symptoms to uncover patterns and support long-term wellbeing.
A personalised approach to your child’s health.
No two children are the same. That’s why during your child’s consultation we’ll take the time to understand their health history, current concerns, diet, sleep, lifestyle and development to build a clear picture of what’s happening.
Together we’ll create a treatment plan that is practical, realistic and designed to work for your family.
Whether you’re visiting the clinic on the Gold Coast or consulting online from anywhere in Australia, your child will receive the very best tailored healthcare.
How Do We Support Kids?
We are very experienced in supporting kids, particularly those with sensory and developmental needs – ARFID, Autism and Pans/Pandas are specialities for us.
Our first priority is your child and all our recommendations are centred around what they need, and how they need to receive it. Our naturopath Cassandra has two children, and first hand experience with Pyrolles, Autism, ARFID, sensory processing disorder, developmental delays, vaccine reactions, MTHFR and immunity issues. This experience means we bring an even better level of care to the children we support at Health Haven.

Making Kid’s Health Simple
At Health Haven we offer children the same care and consideration as adults, with the same detailed 90min Initial Consultation. We have adequate time to discuss their health history, concerns, symptoms and issues, and we often perform an iridology review. In older children (teens+) we may do a live blood analysis if time permits.
After the intial consultation, follow up sessions are either 30mins (standard) or 60min (extended). We also offer a Quick Checkin 20mins if things are going well and we just need a simple touch-base to refine their protocol.

Caring For The Whole Family
One of the greatest joys of being a naturopathic practitioner at Health Haven, is caring for families across every stage of life.
Many of our families first visit with a sick child, then return for their own health concerns, and over time Health Haven becomes part of their family’s ongoing health and wellness journey.
We have many families where we support multiple generations – the children, parents, grandparents and even the great-grandparents. It’s a true honour to be trusted with the health of an entire family.
Whether you’re looking for support for an acute illness, ongoing health concerns, chronic or complex issues or simply want to give your child the best possible foundation for lifelong wellbeing, we’re here to help.
QUALIFIED NATUROPATH & OWNER OF HEALTH HAVEN – CASSANDRA DUFFILL
A Practitioner… who’s also a mum who’s “been there”
One of the guiding factors that led me to become a naturopath, was the fact I was once a mum, looking for answers for my own children.
What we went through reads like a fiction drama; from birth trauma to allergies; to vaccine injury and autism; to ARFID and genetic immune deficiency. If you met my boys today (they are 20 and 17 now) you’d never know the journey we’ve been on.
I know what it’s like to worry when you’re child isn’t thriving, the conflicting advice and the search for answers. Those experiences shaped not only my family’s journey, but the way I care for your children today. I look forward to supporting your family and helping you create a clear path forward.

FAQs
Do you have experience supporting children with complex health concerns?
Yes. Alongside over a decade in clinical practice, my own family’s health journey has given me a deep appreciation for the challenges many parents face. Every child is unique, and my approach is always personalised to their individual needs, while working collaboratively with your GP, paediatrician or other healthcare providers where appropriate.
What ages of children do you see?
I welcome children of all ages, from newborn, babies and toddlers through to teenagers. I believe in fair pricing, that is why my child pricing applies to anyone under the age of 18. Every consultation is tailored to your child’s individual health needs.
Does my child need to be present?
Yes, it is preferred. Sometimes though I understand it is not possible for them to come to every appointment. Where possible, even for younger children, it’s important for me to observe them to help understand their current state of health. I also often use iridology on children (which is just looking in their eyes with a small medical torch), which cannot be done without them present. I have a Blue Card and a current Working With Children Check, but I do require at least one parent or guardian to be present at every consultation.
What appointment type should I choose for my child?
We have a few options available to best suit your child’s needs. Our Standard Kid’s Initial is 45min and is suitable for most kid’s concerns, like gut health, immunity issues, allergies and skin concerns. For more complex conditions such as autism, PANS/PANDAS and behavourial issues, it can be best to have a longer consultation. In that case you can book a Standard Initial 60min or a Complex Case 2hr Initial on our Online Bookings page.
What should I bring to the appointment?
If you have any recent pathology results, specialist reports, a list of current medications or supplements, or relevant medical history, please bring them along. These can help build a more complete picture of your child’s health. Blood test more than 12 weeks old are not relevant, unless they are are diagnosis.
Are herbal medicines & natural supplements safe for children?
When prescribed appropriately by a qualified naturopath, herbal medicines can be a gentle and effective option for many children. Any recommendations are carefully selected based on your child’s age, health concerns and individual needs. After many years of experience I also have a number of options to help with compliance and use children specific products.
Will my child have to take herbal medicine or supplements?
Not always, but often they are needed to move them from a below optimal, or deficient state, into normal levels.
Every treatment plan is personalised. Some children benefit from herbal medicine, others may need nutritional support, dietary changes or simple lifestyle recommendations. My goal is always to recommend only what is genuinely needed.
How many consultations will my child need?
This depends on your child’s health concerns. More simple health issues may rectify quickly, others take time. Some children only require a small number of appointments, while ongoing or more complex conditions may benefit from regular follow-up consultations to monitor progress and adjust treatment as needed. My goal is to restore health as quickly and safely as possible, moving them off supplements and herbal medicines as soon as is practical.
Can I bring my child if they have an acute illness, cold, flu, earache or similar?
For coughs, colds, earaches, tummy bugs and other everyday illnesses, Walk-In Wednesday may be an appropriate option. You are also welcome to book your child in for a consultation any day of the week, using the usual consultation bookings. However if your child has ongoing or more complex health concerns, a full Children’s Consultation will allow enough time for a comprehensive assessment.
Do you work alongside my doctor or specialist/s?
Absolutely. Having been a mum with complex kids, I know what it’s like to balance all the appointments and specialists. I also know how much more valuable it is, when your child’s care team speak with one another and share relevant information. That is why I am very happy to work with your child’s healthcare team and will always aim for naturopathic recommendations to complement the care your child is already receiving from their GP, paediatrician, OT, speech therapist, physiotherapist, psychologist or other healthcare providers.
My child is a fussy eater, can naturopathy help?
Yes it can, and our naturopath has extensive experience in ARFID and other “picky eating” presentations. Fussy eaters often have underlying nutritional deficiencies that further impact the fussy eating, that we address. We have also run a Fussy Feeders program in the past and share much of this knowledge in consultations, where appropriate. We’ve worked alongside SOS Feeders program and various diet restrictions successfully. Do keep in mind that fussy eating has multiple contributing factors and takes time to progress.
My child hates taking medicine? How will they take herbal medicine or supplements?
We’ve been treating children for over 13 years on the Gold Coast, and we’ve developed a great range of kids herbal medicines they actually take quite well. When it comes to supplements, to help with compliance we use kids-specific ranges if possible, as well as products that don’t have much flavour or taste, that can be given in foods and beverages. Having a child with feeding issues and ARFID herself, our naturopath Cassandra has become well versed in this area.
