COMPLEX & CHRONIC HEALTH – GOLD COAST + ONLINE
When there’s more than one thing going on
Multiple symptoms. Years of tests, treatments and appointments, yet you still don’t feel like anyone has looked at the whole picture & you don’t have a clear path forward.
Personalised naturopathic care for people navigating complex, persistent and chronic health concerns.
WHEN HEALTH GETS COMPLICATED
Sometimes there isn’t just one problem to solve
Maybe your health story started with one thing. Then something else appeared, compounded by yet another thing. Sometimes you have a laundry list of diagnoses, but sometimes you have no idea why it’s happening.
Before long, you’ve got a collection of symptoms, pathology results and treatment plans, and you’re not sure which pieces are connected anymore.
You’ve probably seen multiple practitioners or specialists. Tried different diets, medications, supplements or protocols. Some things helped. Some did nothing. Some made you feel worse.
And somewhere along the way, managing your health became practically a part-time job. The guesswork and research is draining you, you wish you had a “Dr House” who’d just look at the whole picture.
Complex health needs more than a five-minute review, beyond just whichever symptom is loudest today.
Complex health can look different for everyone
There isn’t one definition of a complex or chronic client. For some people, it’s having several symptoms affecting different parts of the body. For others, there’s already a diagnosis, sometimes several, but they’re still struggling with their day-to-day health because a diagnosis alone doesn’t mean treatment is clear.
You may be dealing with:
Persistent fatigue - energy that hasn't returned despite rest, lifestyle changes or previous treatment.
Digestive symptoms - bloating, bowel changes, reflux, food reactions or digestive issues occurring alongside other health concerns.
Headaches, migraines and brain fog, maybe with vestibular symptoms, losing words or thoughts.
Pain & inflammation - ongoing aches, discomfort or inflammatory symptoms that affect everyday life.
Sleep & nervous-system symptoms - poor sleep, feeling wired but exhausted, difficulty switching off or feeling increasingly sensitive to stress. You might be experiencing issues with balance, anxiety or POTS.
Multiple sensitivities - feeling reactive to foods, supplements, medications, smells or other things that previously weren't a problem.
Multiple diagnoses - when you're seeing different practitioners for different parts of your health and struggling to understand how it all fits together.
Symptoms without clear answers - when you know something isn't right, but investigations haven't yet explained why you feel the way you do.
The frustrating part?
When you have multiple symptoms, it’s easy for each one to be treated as a separate problem. That’s what makes it so hard to get the right help. We know we need to understand the complete picture, before deciding on what needs attention first, and the right way to stage subsequent support.
CONNECTING THE DOTS WITHOUT CHASING EVERYTHING
Complex doesn’t have to mean chaotic
When there’s multiple symptoms happening, all stealing your quality of life in various ways, it’s easy to think we need to address them all at once.
But the answer isn’t a dozen supplements or a complex treatment protocol that’s hard for you to follow.
We take a staged approach, that works on the underlying cause while providing relief from acute symptoms.
Not every health issue has a magical single “root cause”, we know there are multiple contributors.
Our goal is to support the bodily systems that aren’t functioning optimally and restore their function, while support your daily symptoms so you can get your life back.
What We Consider
When your history is complex, the details matter. Your initial consultation gives us time to understand what’s happened and where things stand now before deciding what comes next.
Our process may look at:
your symptoms
Not just what you’re experiencing, but patterns, triggers, severity and how different symptoms may relate.
diagnoses & interventions
Existing diagnoses, pathology, imaging, specialist investigations and what’s already been ruled in or out.
medications & previous treatment
What you’re taking now, what you’ve tried previously, what helped and what didn’t.
Your health goals
What you want to acheive, the symptoms you want to address and the daily life we can help you attain
nutrient status
Diet, appetite, restrictions, nutrient intake and relevant nutritional factors.
gut health
Digestion, bowel function, food tolerance and whether digestive symptoms form part of the broader picture.
metabolic health
Where hormones, thyroid, blood-sugar regulation or other metabolic factors may be relevant.
sleep & stress
How well you’re recovering, sleeping and coping with the physiological load you’re carrying.
testing
Where further investigation is genuinely useful, we’ll discuss it. We don’t order tests simply because your case is complex.
You don’t need another pile of expensive testing
Complex clients often arrive with folders full of results. Even armed with all the tests and a long-history of symptoms, they’re often told “everything is normal”. For some, they have a diagnosis, but still don’t have a supportive treatment plan.
Either way, more testing isn’t generally the answer.
We start by looking at what’s already been investigated and what information we already have. That means that in many cases we don’t need additional testing.
But sometimes there may be a clinically relevant reason to consider other appropriate testing.
Before testing we always questions if it will change the course of treatment for the better? If the answer is yes, we consider it. If the answer is no, we don’t waste your money looking for the next needle in the haystack.
QUALIFIED NATUROPATH & OWNER OF HEALTH HAVEN – CASSANDRA DUFFILL
Complex cases have always been part of my work
Meet Cassandra Duffill
I’ve been in clinical practice for more than 13 years, and some of the people I’ve worked with simply don’t fit neatly into one box.
Clients arrive with long histories. Multiple symptoms. Previous diagnoses, medications, pathology and treatment plans. Sometimes they’ve been trying to get well for years.
These are the cases where taking the time to listen and build the full picture matters. It’s my job to untangle your case and create a treatment plan to support you towards healing.
I know personally how hard it can be to get answers and support. I spent over a decade dealing with the effects of pelvic mesh reaction, being gaslit by doctors and having to uncover my own health & healing journey.
That first-hand experience is why I do things differently at Health Haven.
how you’re supported
A plan you can actually follow
Complex health doesn’t need to mean doing everything at once.
In fact, when someone has already tried dozens of treatments, adding another enormous protocol can be the last thing they need. Often they need simplification, direction and a supportive guide for the process.
Your treatment plan is built around your individual presentation and priorities.
Depending on what’s appropriate for you, this may include nutritional medicine, herbal medicine, practitioner supplementation, dietary strategies, lifestyle support, further investigation or working alongside your existing healthcare team.
We stage the treatment process. Start with what’s most important. Let your body respond. Then adjust.
Because a good plan isn’t the one containing the most interventions. It’s the one that makes sense for the person who actually has to live with it, while actually getting results.
Initial consultation
All our clients start with an Initial Consultation (75mins), either in-person or online. During this session we discuss your history, your symptoms, your health goals and and create a custom treatment plan for you. From here some clients choose to go session by session, other choose to join The Complex Health Pathway.
the complex health pathway
A 12-week practitioner-led healing pathway, including a series of consultations, follow-up sessions, check-ins and ongoing support between sessions. Plus it includes a Supplement Starter Pack and other useful supportive assets.

part of your care team
Working alongside your healthcare team
Complex and chronic health often involves more than one practitioner or doctor, and that’s okay. You may already be working with your GP, medical specialists, allied-health practitioners or other healthcare providers.
Naturopathic care can form one part of that broader team.
We’ll consider your diagnoses, prescribed medications and existing treatment when making recommendations, and where appropriate we can communicate with other practitioners involved in your care.
If something needs medical investigation or sits outside our scope, we’ll tell you.
We can also keep your existing medical team up to date (with your permission) with regular reports.
The objective isn’t to replace the medical care you already have if it’s working for you. It’s to complement it and provide you with the next level of healing and support.

Getting Started
All new clients start with a 75-minute Initial Consultation, either in person or online. We’ll go through your health history, current symptoms, diagnoses, medications and supplements, previous treatment and relevant investigations.
You don’t need to explain thirteen years of health history perfectly in chronological order while sitting in the chair. Your intake information helps us start building the picture before we meet, and we’ll work through what’s relevant together.
From there, we’ll identify your priorities and map out your next steps.
Book an Initial Consultation
If we decide at your Initial Consultation that The Perimenopause Pathway is the right solution for you, your Initial Consultation will become the first session in your pathway and the cost of the session is deducted from the total program cost*, so you’re never out of pocket.
*Credit applies to a standard Initial Consultation booked at full price.
FAQs
Is my case too complex for naturopathy?
Complexity alone doesn’t necessarily determine whether naturopathic care is appropriate. Your first consultation allows us to understand your health history and determine where naturopathic care may fit. If something is outside our scope or requires medical investigation, we’ll tell you. Generally we find that naturopathic care support your health in ways some other modalities, doctors or specialists can’t.
Do I need a confirmed diagnosis before I can book an appointment?
No. Some clients come with established diagnoses, while others have persistent symptoms they’re still investigating. We’ll work with the information you already have and determine whether further investigation may be appropriate.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring or upload relevant recent pathology, specialist reports, medication and supplement information, and anything else you think may help us understand your history. You will have access to our private client portal from the moment you make a booking, so you’ll be able to upload any information for us and complete the intake form. Blood tests over 12 weeks old generally aren’t clinically relevant, except pathology relating to diagnosed conditions.
I've already tried supplements. Will you just give me more to try?
No we won’t. Yes, naturopathic protocols do include supplements and herbal medicines, because we can’t address deficiencies or lack of function without it. However we won’t waste your time or money on supplements that you’ve tried before and don’t work. Our protocols are always streamlined (meaning you are on the smallest amount of products possible), and titred down as soon as we’re able to replace with nutritional interventions. We always prescribe to your needs and your budget.
Will I need to spend lots of money on testing?
No. We don’t test for the sake of it. Our naturopath knows first-hand how much time and money can be wasted looking for the “wrong needle, in the wrong haystack”. We start with what you have, working with symptoms and health conditions to direct your treatment. We only ever test if it’s clinically relevant, would help improve the treatment protocol and if you approve it. Clients are often surprised how little (if any) testing Cassandra does, yet they still get improvements.
Do you work alongside my doctor or specialist/s?
Yes we can. If you want us to, we can absolutely work alongside your GP or specialists and keep them abreast of your treatment, with a detailed letter after each session, or a monthly update. We work with you, and them, for your best outcomes. We are happy to work with the medications you’re on, the doctors and specialists you’re seeing and keep them up to date (if you would like us to).
Can I have my appointment online?
Yes. Appointments are available via telehealth Australia-wide as well as in person at Health Haven in Nerang on the Gold Coast. As Gold Coast naturopaths we are very experienced at delivering a quality consultation both online and inperson.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly.
